The history of the church and village is closely connected with the noble Žilinskas family. A gem of the Classicism era in the Dzūkija forests, the Nedzingė Church—designed by architect Karolis Gregotovičius, a graduate of Vilnius University—resembles an ancient temple. It can be said that it serves as the mausoleum of the Žilinskas family.
