Kabeliai Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The church standing in Kabeliai village is an impressive example of wooden sacred architecture, built at the end of the 18th century. Its interior exudes tranquility, and the churchyard is surrounded by historic trees. The main church celebration is the Feast of the Assumption (Žolinė), when believers from surrounding areas gather here.

During the Soviet era, the church served as an underground center for spiritual activity. Priest Pranciškus Čaglys, who served from 1919, actively supported Lithuanian identity and education—he was persecuted by the Polish authorities for his national views.
