While traveling along the cognitive route “In the Footsteps of the Dainava District Partisan Battles”, you will visit the bunkers of the Merkys Squad and the Nemunas Squad of the Kazimieraitis Unit, part of the Vytautas Homeland of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL). These bunkers once served as command centers of the Homeland. In battles against the occupiers, Homeland leaders Adolfas Baublys (code name Merkys) and Vincas Kalanta (Nemunas) lost their lives in these very places.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the bunker of the Genys partisan group, where in May 1952 some of the last partisans of the Homeland perished.

The trail begins from the main road. You can follow it either to the left or to the right. The route is suitable for cycling or driving, but the specific sites must be reached on foot.
