Čepkeliai Educational Trail

The trail is surrounded by the beauty of the Čepkeliai Marsh — peatlands, rare plant species, and birds. It is a great place to get acquainted with a unique natural ecosystem. Informational boards are installed along the trail to help better understand the significance of this area. At the edge of the Čepkeliai Marsh, there is a 1.5 km long educational trail. Travelers along this trail can catch a glimpse of one of the most valuable treasures of the Varėna region — the Čepkeliai Marsh. The wooden boardwalk leads to a viewing platform, where from the tower you can see vast misty peat bogs, with miniature century-old pine trees scattered in places. If you are lucky, you may spot cranes or hear the bubbling calls of black grouse from the tower.

In Marcinkonys, there is the Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve Visitors’ Center and exhibition, where you can learn about the protected flora and fauna, the history of landscape formation, and human activities in Čepkeliai.

From March 1 to August 1, visiting the Čepkeliai Marsh educational trail is allowed ONLY for educational purposes, aimed at learning about the natural complexes and objects protected in the Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve, and ONLY accompanied by specialists from the Dzūkija National Park and Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve Directorate!

VISITING HOURS WITH A DIRECTORATE SPECIALIST:
Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00, 13:00, and 15:00.

For educational purposes, individual visitors or groups may visit independently (without a Directorate specialist) from August 1 to March 1, only on educational trails directly accessible from roads, without leaving the trail boundaries, and only during daylight hours (no earlier than 1.5 hours before sunrise and no later than 1.5 hours after sunset).
