Varėna – Lavysas – „Ūlos akis“ – Zervynos – Palkabalis - Varėna

Trail length: 49 km

Trail start: Varėna Dainų Valley or Varėna Legends and Folklore Park

Begin your journey in Varėna — its railway station remains one of the city’s most beautiful buildings. The station interior is decorated with motifs inspired by the works of M. K. Čiurlionis, who was born in Senosios Varėna. Visitors are drawn to Varėna by its cozy city atmosphere, the Legends and Folklore Park, and the water-surrounded Dainų Valley.

As you travel toward Dzūkija National Park, you will reach the village of Žiūrai, scattered on both sides of the Ūla River, and the famous Ūla Eye spring. Stop at the ethnographic village of Zervynai. You can rest at the Pauosupė campsite, located along the winding Ūla River. In Pauosupė village, be sure to visit Anzelmas Matutis’s “Drevė” museum.

Finally, after crossing a ridge of inland dunes, you will pass the tiny village of Palkabalis and return to Varėna through hilly pine forests.
