Trail start: Merkinė Visitor Center

The trail begins in Merkinė, at the Dzūkija National Park Visitor Center. Here you will find an interesting exhibition. After exploring it, you will learn more about Dzūkija National Park and the craft-famous town of Merkinė, whose history is linked to the names of Vytautas, Jogaila, and Vladislovas Vaza, and which still retains its archaic layout. You can enjoy the river confluence view from the Merkinė Hillfort, visit the Subartonys oak grove closely connected with the life and work of the famous Dainava region writer Vincas Krėvė-Mickevičius, and see his house museum there. After completing the hike in Merkinė, you can restore your energy on the Merkinė Hillfort, admiring the stunning view of the Nemunas and Merkys river confluence.
