Merkinė Regional Museum

Merkinė is an old town of Dzūkija, shrouded in legends. Located in the town center, the Merkinė Local History Museum offers a modern exhibition that brings to life the region’s key historical events: the times of Merkinė Castle and town prosperity, the death of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Władysław Vasa in Merkinė in 1648, the partisan attack on Merkinė in 1945, and other stories from the area’s rich past.

The museum exhibits:

  • Artifacts from the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Ages;

  • Items reflecting the glory of Merkinė in the 16th–18th centuries;

  • An impressive collection of decorative stove tiles;

  • The ornate Merkinė Town Hall bell, cast by Vilnius’ most famous bell-maker Jonas Delamarsas.

The museum also offers educational programs and guided tours. For more information, visit the museum’s official website.
