Exhibition of Hollow Bee‑Keeping

In 2006, a traditional hollow-log apiary was established in the village of Musteika. Today, bees also inhabit the hollows of nearby forest trees.

Guided by an experienced beekeeper, visitors to the apiary can see how bees are cared for in log hives, how honey and wax are processed, and how the traditional hives are made. You’ll have the chance to taste fresh honey collected right on site. The tour also includes a look at smaller hives – known as vabikai – used to attract swarms of bees.

At the beginning of summer, new swarms are introduced into the hives. Guests can also try out traditional crafts, especially during the weaving week, and explore the ancient village of Musteika and its surrounding natural environment.
