Monument to Grand Duke Vytautas of Lithuania

The 8.3-meter-tall monument to Grand Duke Vytautas was decided to be erected by the Perloja riflemen and the local community in the autumn of 1929 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of his death. The monument was completed in 1931 and solemnly unveiled on July 19, 1931. Funds were raised through lotteries and donations. During the postwar period, the monument was often shot at by local Soviet collaborators (stribai), and there were two attempts to demolish it, but both failed.
