Monument Commemorating the Birthplace of M. K. Čiurlionis

The monument is based on one of M. K. Čiurlionis’s most famous and frequently reproduced paintings, “The Tale of the Kings,” which depicts two kings holding the sun in their palms, with a village in the background. It is an exact sculptural composition of a 19th-century map, clearly showing the outlines of the first church and five nearby buildings.

The light shining from the window of the bronze house symbolizes the birth of the genius. When looking at the monument, viewers become a changing part of the imagined painting.

The monument was created by sculptor Gediminas Piekuras and architect Prof. Gintaras Čaikauskas.
