Milžinas Squad Dugout and Site of Death

The site of the bunker and death of five partisans from the Milžinas Squad, where the bunker has been reconstructed and the monument “Executed Lithuania” has been erected.

Viršurodukis is a unique witness to living history. In its surroundings, ten partisans lost their lives. Visitors can see the recently reconstructed partisan dugout of the Milžinas Squad, into which a traitor led NKVD officers, who then shot and killed five partisans. The youngest was only 15 years old.

Artist Gintaras Žylys created the monument “Executed Lithuania” at this site. The partisan’s heart—symbolized by Lithuania—is pierced by five bullets, representing the deaths of the five partisans. The oak leaf symbolizes the spiritual strength of the nation, while the cry may be interpreted as either a prayer or an expression of pain.
