In 1881, on the left bank of the Varėnė River, the Russian Imperial authorities established a military training camp (lageriai) for the Vilnius Military District. The site included wooden barracks and a decorative two-story brick building that served as an officers' club. On the right bank of the river, a large artillery training ground measuring 7 by 4 kilometers was constructed. The area was connected to the Alytus Fortress by a special railway section. The railway line between Glūkas Station and Poteronys was opened in 1895, and around that time the Glūkas railway station building complex was constructed.
The station was also known as “Artillerijskaja” (Artillery Station). After Poland occupied the Vilnius region in 1920, the station remained on the Lithuanian side of the border. Between 1924 and 1927, trains from Kaunas via Alytus still ran to the Artillery Station. In 1927, the Lithuanian Railway Administration decided to close the bridge over the Nemunas River in Alytus, and the branch line to Varėna was dismantled.
In 1930, the station building was converted into a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients. In 1952, the Varėna Forest Industry Enterprise purchased the building from the Railway Administration. Following reconstruction in 1958, it was repurposed to house the Glūkas Forest District office, along with three apartments for forestry workers. The Glūkas Forest District operated here until 1989, when it was merged with the Merkys Forest District.
Today, the Glūkas railway station building complex stands as a historically significant site, reflecting the military, transportation, and forestry heritage of the region.
