Merkinė Regional Museum

Merkinė – the legendary ancient capital of the Dzūkija region.

Located in the center of the town, the Merkinė Regional Museum offers not only a modern exhibition but also the opportunity to hear captivating stories about the times of Merkinė Castle and town, the death of Grand Duke of Lithuania Władysław Vasa in Merkinė in 1648, the partisan assault on Merkinė in 1945, and many other chapters of local history.

The museum displays artifacts from the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Ages, as well as items reflecting the glory of Merkinė in the 16th–18th centuries — including a beautifully crafted town hall bell cast by the famous Vilnius bell maker Jonas Delamars, an impressive collection of stove tiles, and other archaeological finds.

The museum also offers educational programs and guided tours. For more information, visit the official website of the Merkinė Regional Museum.
